The Vigilance police on Friday conducted simultaneous raids on the residence, parental house and office of suspended Jailer of Sambalpur Circle Jail Susanta Kumar Rout on the allegation of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Rout was arrested. The Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur would be requested to remand him to Vigilance custody for further interrogation to trace out his immovable and movable assets.
The raids came a day after Rout had been placed under suspension.
According to reports, raids were conducted at Rout’s Government quarters and his office at Sambalpur and parents’ house at Kalyanpur and Binjharpur in Jajpur district to unearth possession of disproportionate assets.
Notably, cash of Rs 18 lakh had been recovered from Rout’s chamber in the jail during a raid on June 4.
Additional Director General (Prisons) Arun Kumar Ray had suspended Rout on Thursday and asked for a Vigilance probe into the incident.
