Sambalpur firms urged to follow MoU commitments

A seven-member Assembly Standing Committee headed by MlA Prafulla Kumar Mallick during its visit to Sambalpur on Thursday asked the industries to stick to the conditions laid down in their MoUs as regards employment, periphery development, plantation and protection of environment.

Mallick expressed his dissatisfaction over the poor performance of the industrial units in all these sectors and cautioned that he would bring it to the notice of the Government.

Industries need to go for 33 per cent plantation of the allotted land for better environment and a green belt. But their plantation coverage is not even 2-3 per cent, lamented Mallick and all other members including Anup Kumar Sai, Naba Kishore Das, Gregari Minz, Debendra Kanhar and Kashinath Mallick after a spot visit to various industries in presence of the district level officials.

During the review, the committee had a brief discussion with the District Collector, RDC and all the departmental officers. They suggested for the establishment of an Eco Park at Sambalpur and upgradation of the existing sanctuary at Badarama and Debrigarh. The committee also suggested for massive plantations all through the district. The committee further asked all industries to establish green belts around their establishments and stick to the CSR guidelines.

During a review of the transport department, the committee expressed its concern over the growing number of road accidents in the State. They suggested for the establishment of a driving training institute at Chipilima to produce better and competent drivers that could be helpful in curbing road accidents.  They also asked the RTO on poor enforcement of rules on the erring vehicles.

The committee also made a field visit to the industries to have direct interaction with the chiefs.

They admitted that the industries are facing problems due to shortage of minerals. Three DFOs, officials of the Pollution Control Board, ADM, district emergency officer, GM of the DIC, GM of the OSRTC and all other senior officers were present during the review and gave the details of the activities carried out by them.

It is further learnt that another committee on food and civil supply will visit Sambalpur on July 23 and 24.
