The strange policy of an insurance company covering farmers under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana has dismayed the farmers in Jujomura block, a tribals-dominated area of district. While farmers cultivated paddy during last season, the insurance company showed them to be cultivating maize. “We fail to understand how did it happen,” said former chairman of Jujomura block Aswini Kumra. “This is nothing but a connivance of insurance company and Government officials to harass affected farmers and deprive them of their legitimate dues under insurance scheme,” Kumra and many other Sarapanchs of block said. To protest such irregularity, the farmers of different Gram Panchayats of block organised a road blockade to ventilate their anger pressing for due compensation for crop loss of last year under ‘PM Fasal Bima Yojana. ’ They blocked the Sambalpur-Cuttack National Highway at Jujomura resulting in a traffic mess. However, the BDO of Jujomura, Tehsildar and police rushed to spot and assured agitators of an early solution to their problem. Later, farmers withdrew stir. However, the farmers warned that if their demand was not be fulfilled by September 23.
