Samata Kranti Dal (SKD) president Braja Kishore Tripathy on Thursday announced that his party would have no alliance with any party for the coming elections, putting an end to speculation about a possible tie-up of the party with the BJP in the State.
Tripathy said the SKD would contest about seven lok Sabha and nearly 50 Assembly seats. The party would support appropriate non-BJD candidates in the rest of the constituencies, he said.
“We had a preliminary round of discussion with the central leaders of the BJP, which was supposed to be followed up by the State leadership of the party. But since they have not taken any initiative in this regard so far, the party decided to go it alone in the elections,” Tripathy, a former Union Minister said.
He lashed out at the media for what he called its wild speculations about the number of seats his party had asked for to join a BJP alliance. “When the talks for a possible seat sharing arrangement had not even begun, how can we possibly ask for a particular number of seatsIJ” he asked.
