Salesman to newspaper hawking: S'pur lad cracks OCS

Published on:

He worked as a sales boy in a grocery shop to make ends meet. Even he didn’t hesitate to work as a newspaper hawker. He didn’t feel shy to do any work that fetched him money to manage his family and continue his studies.  And finally, he has made his presence felt.

Dhanamali Mahanada of the district has set an example for others by cracking the Odisha Civil Services recently.  In the year 2004, his father deserted his mother, brother and sister. His mother, Nalini went to her father’s home at Dhama with her three children and worked as a daily labourer to bring up them.  But that was not enough to manage the family and give education to Dhanamali and two others.

Hence, Dhanamali came to a relative’s house at Bareipali inside Sambalpur city and worked as a sales boy in a grocery shop. Then he worked as a newspaper hawker, and also as a food server in catering service, but continued his education and passed HSC examination in the year 2011. He also passed +2 Examination successfully and after that got seat in VSSSUT Burla in Civil Engineering where he also passed successfully.

After that he worked in an NGO in Chhattisgarh where he thought to join Civil Services and prepared accordingly. But he never went to any coaching centre. He prepared from net and YouTube. And with publication of the results, he got it in the first attempt.

“The whole credit of my success goes to my mother who sacrificed a lot for us totally forgetting about her. I am also equally indebted to my friends, relatives, teachers and a few individuals who helped me during my need without whose help I couldn’t have completed Engineering course,” said Dhanamali.

“My aim is to serve the people of the State. Since I know what poverty is, my experience will help me to serve better,” he added.
