Sainik School in Baleswar demanded

Published on:

Ever since the Central Government announced that 100 Sainik Schools would be established across the country, demands for setting up of such schools have been echoing from various regions.

A civil society organisation (CSO), Balasore Government Medical College and Hospital Action Committee, has submitted a memorandum to ADM Sambit Nayak demanding setting up of a Sainik School in Baleswar .The body said the State Government should try to convince the Centre to bring  more and more Sainik Schools to Odisha. While considering such schools in the State, priority should be given to Baleswar district as it has adequate infrastructure for the same.

There are Defence establishments  such as Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE), Integrated Test Range(ITR)  and other establishments too which could be useful for Sainik School students  to get  exposure and training, the committee said. The committee members also mentioned that  the only Sainik  School in Bhubaneswar  was established with the efforts of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik.

Since there is a scope  of establishment of 100 more Sainik Schools across the country  as announced in the Union Budget, Baleswar is the most appropriate venue, the committee said, adding that since Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced during the Baleswar by-election  that the development of district would be his personal responsibility, he should actively consider the Sainik School demand.
