Following the arrest of a Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach on the charges of sexually assaulting a female trainee athlete, the SAI women cell head Dr Reena Kaul on Saturday visited the SAI Hostel here and held discussions with the complainant and other inmates of the hostel.
Kaul, also psychological officer of the SAI, would submit her report in this connection to the SAI’s Kolkatta division head for further course of action. “I will submit my report to the division head soon and probably another committee would come over here to make a comprehensive enquiry into this sensitive matter,” she said.
It may be mentioned that following a written complaint by the minor trainee athlete, the police on Thursday had arrested coach Susant Roy, who had since been remanded to judicial custody after a court refused to grant him bail.
Meanwhile, a section of hostel inmates and other coaches are not happy with the arrest of Susant Roy claiming that he is innocent and framed in this case. Expressing anguish over the entire development, local head coach Ashok Bhadra said he was kept in dark in the whole incident.
“Neither the complainant had brought the matter before me nor the police consulted me before taking a coach into custody,” Bhadra said.
