The city police on Thursday arrested Sports Authority of India (SAI) coach Susant Roy (45) and forwarded him to court on charges of sexually assaulting a female trainee athlete of the SAI hostel here.

The minor girl on Wednesday had lodged a written complaint at the Mahila police station alleging that the coach had been mentally and sexually assaulting her for past several days. Basing on it, police had registered a case under several sections of the IPC and the Posco Act.

"During preliminary inquiries, it was revealed that there are prima facie evidences against the accused coach and, accordingly, he was arrested and forwarded to court," said Mahila police station Inspector Sakuntala Pati.

Refusing to divulge the details of police investigation as it is a very sensitive matter, the woman police inspector said the investigation was still continuing and did not rule out more arrests in this connection.
