The BJP on Saturday pulled up the State Government in the State Assembly for the callousness of the Odisha Sahitya Akademi in preserving traditional palm-leaf manuscripts, Madala Panji and old Utkal literary works in its archives.
Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, BJP member Bishnu Charan Sethi alleged that the Sahitya Akademi has failed to preserve old Utakl literary works and enhance the quality of Odia literature.
Stating that many households in Cuttack and Puri districts have old palm-leaf manuscripts, Sethi said the Sahitya Akademi should collect them and preserve them.
He said the ‘Mughal Tamasa’, after its renovation, has become a famous in the country and worldwide.
“If we don’t find Prachin Utkal Sahitya in the Akadimi’s archives and Youtube, how can we promote glorious past of out literature works,” pointed out Sethi.
He urged Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro to direct the Government to modernize and streamline the Akademi at the earliest.
