SAGY: Health camp held in B'swar village

Published on:

In the efforts to rebuild a gram panchayat under Sansad Adrash Gram Yojana (SAGY) at Kalika, a mini health camp was organised at the local Jan Seva Kendra on Thursday.

Besides free medical treatment, medicines too were distributed to hundreds of villagers who visited the camp.

Moreover, the very same day, construction work was initiated on a Model Anganwadi Centres at Kusthashram ward at a cost of Rs 7 lakh. Similar construction has already been initiated at Hatigarh and Kalika wards.

It may be noted on June 2, as millions around the globe practised yoga and celebrated the International Day of Yoga, students and teachers of three schools in Kalika joined in the celebration and learnt various postures (asanas) from the yoga gurus from Healthy life Yoga.

This marks a tangible progress in the attempt of Baleswar MP Rabindra Kumar Jena, to ensure that Kalika panchayat becomes a Swastha Gram.

Under the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) scheme of the Government of India, a major focus is on ensuring access to quality healthcare, fostering healthy habits and promoting daily exercise and AYUSH.

Accordingly, the team from Swaniti Initiative led by Utkarsha Bhardwaj working with Jena and his office to develop Kalika as a model village undertook a comprehensive analysis of the health requirements and existing challenges pertaining to health in the village.

This included extensive interaction with the villagers, frontline health workers, PRI members, doctors at Hatigarh CHC and Anganwadi workers. Based on this assessment, a plan with multiple interventions was drawn up, in line with Jena’s commitment to develop Kalika in a holistic manner by not just proposing improved infrastructure but also promoting yoga and other components under AYUSH.

The interventions included permanent buildings for Anganwadi Centres in Kalika, celebration of International Day of Yoga and a mini-health camp among other things.

The team comprising of Utkarsha and Subham Chirania discussed the need for permanent buildings for AWCs with the concerned block level officials, who sanctioned permanent buildings for Kalika, Kusthashram, Bhadua and Hatigarh Anganwadis.

The team then approached Dr Chittaranjan Sahu from Healthy life Yoga to partner for some of the proposed interventions and Dr Sahu assured full cooperation and support for this noble initiative.

Expressing confidence that with the active cooperation of the panchayat and district and block officials, Kalika would become an Adarsh Gram, MP Jena said, “Investing in the future is the key to achieving the long term vision of a Shikshit, Saksham, Swastha and Samriddha Gram. For me, the idea of a model village is more about promoting and fostering the personal development of the villagers.”
