A high powered steering committee at the behest of Sports Authority of India had a mandate to develop SAG,Water Sports Centre Jagatpur as a pilot project for centre of excellence in water sports namely rowing, canoeing, kayaking and swimming. It also has a target of developing the centre with State of art sports science centre.
The chairman of the committee, former Union Minister and a very keen sports enthusiast, Brig. K P Singh Deo, AVSM, ADC along with SS Chhabra, Secretary SAI and Regional Director SAI Kolkata M.S.Gondi chaired the meeting at Jagatpur on Wednesday.
Others present in the meeting were Dronacharya Awardee Jose Jacob, Col. Bhanwala, Arjun Awardee, Col. Uberoi, Aurjun Awardee member governing body SAI, Col. Pathak, ex Army, member Mission Olympic wing, Maj. ( Dr.) Chandran sports science expert and lalit Mishra.
It was also decided in the meeting to increase the input of boys and girls and broaden the base and to establish sports Science Centre at the 100 bedded hostel.
Besides upgradation of administrative facilities, the training facilities and Infrastructure for hosting National camps was discussed.
The decisions and the development will be scientifically monitored every quarter. The SAG water Sports Centre at Jagatpur will be one of the finest water sports centers in times to come, informed Orissa Association for Rowing and Sculling secretary Amar Jyoti Singh Deo.
