Administrators and experts in the power sector are insistent on a roadmap for safety in energy generation, distribution and transmission so that it would help generate the much-required awareness among people in the long run.

Accordingly, the State-owned Odisha Power Transmission Corporation limited (OPTCl), the premier institution engaged in power transmission sector, is busy creating an environment for safety.

The Odisha Power Transmission Corporation limited (OPTCl), which is organised the National Safety Week from March 4 to 10 here, held a brainstorming session on the first day where its top executives and experts like Ashok Kumar Tripathy, former Director General of Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) exchanged their views. OPTCl CMD Pradeep Kumar Jena chaired the meeting.

Tripathy argued in favour of putting in place a safety policy to bring in a safety culture in the Odisha Power Transmission Corporation limited (OPTCl). He advised regular safety audit in all the sectors of production, transmission and distribution of energy.

Jena wanted generating an aesthetic sense among the executives, employees and workers in the Grid and switch yard so that the work environment would be conducive. He also wanted compulsory safety training for all executives and employees and asked the officials to procure safety equipments for their use.

OPTCl HRD Director SK Rath, and Engineering Director SK Das stressed the need of preparation of a safety roadmap for the PSU.
