After the cyclone warning sounded, the Puri district administration on Tuesday began working on a war footing to ensure safety of hundreds of the Kartik Brata-observing widows who are lodged in three temporary camps here.
Inmates of two camps were shifted to permanent facilities while efforts were on to shift those of the other camp.
The Government had extended all help to these poor women devotees who are observing Katrtik Brata in the abode of lord Jagannath. This year, provisions for 2,000 devotees have been made, for which three temporary shades equipped with all modern amenities have been constructed. The women are also served free Mahaparasad besides other essential items needed for the Brata. A fire accident in a camp was controlled by Fire Services personnel recently.
In view of the cyclone alert, all Kartik Brata observers would be housed in permanent accommodations.
