Sack Naveen Govt for anarchy: Cong to Guv

A delegation of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) headed by its president Jayadev Jena met Governor SC Jamir on Saturday at the Raj Bhavan and requested the latter for a personal review of the deteriorating law and order condition of the State and dismiss the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Govt for its failure to check rising crimes in State.

The State Government has failed to maintain law and order, check crimes, while the rate of registration of cases and conviction of accused in the State is extremely dismal. There has been an annual increase of crime by about 15 per cent in 2011-12, while crime rate against women in the State is much higher than the national average and the low conviction rate makes a mockery of the trial. The density of horrendous crime is intense in Dalit or tribal villages as victims in most cases happened to be women belonging to SC and ST communities. There is no security of life and liberty for women and girls, they said in their memorandum.

They continued that the recent death of the rape and burn victim of Kendrapada, which was a result of negligence in treatment, speaks volume about the lack of concern of the State Government for the safety of the Dalit girl.  The melodrama staged by the Government to shift the victim after her death shows its hypocrisy. The statement of Health Minister Damodar Rout to media that the girl died due to noise made by the protestors is nothing but a cruel joke, they lamented and urged the Governor to make a personal review of the case and dismiss the murderous Government to uphold democracy and rule of law.
