Sabyasachi's close aide Pramod surrenders

In a major development, jailed Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda’s close aide Pramod Majhi alias Sagar surrendered before the police in Brahmapur on Monday.  “He was second in command in the Odisha Maobadi Party (OMP), the breakaway outfit formed by Ssabyascahi Panda after he was expelled from the CPI(Maoist). He was involved in more than 50 cases. Today, he surrendered before the Ganjam police,” DIG (SR) Amitav Thakur said.

Earlier, the Gajapati police had released sketches of several wanted Maoists including Majhi. It may be pointed out that Majhi’s wife K Anita alias Kalari Majhi of Mandrabaju village in Gajapati district had been arrested from the Talapatna forests under the Badagada police limits in Ganjam district in 2013. She had joined the Maoist movement in 2007 as a member of their cultural team under the leadership of Dashuram.

In 2009, she became the head of the party’s local women’s wing. She was allegedly involved in nine cases of Maoist violence in Ganjam district.
