S'pur GP where jobless migrants get wage works

Published on:

Amidst Covid pandemic, migrant labourers who returned home were mostly jobless and hence finding a job afresh was a great difficulty for them.

But Megahpal gram panchayat under Jujomura block stands as an example where hundreds of labourers were provided works under Government schemes, thanks to efforts of the district administration.

The local officials in consultation with Sambalpur Collector Subham Saxena proposed for construction of a road from Tamparsingh village RD chowk to Chauda Acre and Bandijharan villages under Mahatma Gandhi Jatiya Gramina Karma Nijukti Yojana at a project cost of Rs 9 lakh. Since it is totally an earth work, the entire benefit was to go to the labourers.  “A good number of people going to Surat, Mumbai, Hyderabad and other parts of the country have been provided jobs under this work and they are quite happy and self sufficient now,” informed Collector Saxena.

There is no dearth of funds under different schemes to provide jobs to the labourers and similar works are also going on in all other parts of the district, he added.

Local GRS Namita Pradhan further informed that all those who were out of their homes had been provided job cards. Ration cards have been also made for them which were made not earlier.
