Police arrested senior leader Jayabrata Dey, his son and two others on various allegations, including attacking police in a police station.
Dey was a hardliner RSS and BJP leader, but joined BJD in later stage after disputes with MLA Jayanarayan Mishra. But he has been suspended from BJD too. “There was a series of allegations against him. But yesterday he crossed all limits. Hence, we arrested him and forwarded him to court,” informed Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar.
On March 20 at about 11.40 pm, one Rochis Dey, Md Sohel, Sadiq Ahemad Raza were present near Uphar Palace road in a car and exchanging cash. That time, Sk Mujib, Bittu @ Mosim Aktar and Susanta Haro along with three to four others arrived there. Soon, there was an exchange of words and later a fist fight.
Sk Mujib, Bittu @ Mosim Aktar, Susanta and others caught hold of the shirt collar of Rochis and tried to take away his mobile phone. On this Rochis drove the car at high speed as a result of which, Mosim Aktar fell down and sustained injury on his hand.
Meanwhile, Rochis called his father Jayabrata Dey to the spot, who along with three others arrived instantly leading to hot altercations.
However, the ERV vehicle arrived at the spot and took them to the police station. While ERV staff were taking the accused persons Sk Mujib, Mosim Aktar and Susanta to the police station, suddenly Jayabrata, Rochis, Sohel, Ahemad and three to four others armed with deadly hockey stick and lathi arrived near the main entrance of Dhanupali PS and suddenly attacked Sk Mujib, Mosim Aktar and Susanta in presence of police. Despite protest of police, Dey and group attacked, assaulted and abused the opposite party with an intention to kill them and did not allow police to perform their duty. With much difficulty, the police personnel pacified them and took away the hockey sticks and lathis from the hands of Jayabrata and supporters.
