A teacher of Sundargarh district has landed in jail allegedly for eloping with a minor girl student with a plan to marry her secretly.

The accused teacher was nabbed from Bihar and was arrested and forwarded to court by Kutra police on Wednesday on rape charges since the girl student is minor.

The Kutra Police with the help of Bihar police also rescued the minor girl from a rented house in Bihar where the teacher had kept her. She was handed over to her parents later.

The accused Yogesh Sharma (33), a resident of Gopinathpalli of Rajgangpur, works as a teacher in St John Marry Vianney English Medium School under Kutra police station.  When the girl was studying in Class-V, Yogesh was taking tuition of the girl at her home. He allegedly had tried to trap the minor girl in love relationship at that time and suspecting the activities of the teacher, her parents had disengaged Yogesh from giving tuition to their daughter.  The minor girl is now studying in Class VIII.

The girl went missing from her home on March 5 evening. Her father lodged an FIR accusing Yogesh to be behind the act. Police could come to know that  Yogesh was available at Siwan in Bihar and a police team headed by IIC Kutra Police station S Parida with the help of Bihar police nabbed him from a rented house and also rescued the minor girl.

“We arrested the accused and forwarded him to court on Wedensday. His bail plea was rejected and he was put behind bar," said Parida.
