The Sambalpur police on Wednesday inducted two all-women Police Control Room (PCR) vans to their existing fleet to enable women in distress approach them easily.
The vehicles would patrol sensitive areas, in which women and girls are vulnerable.
The initiative, which is a first-of-its-kind in the State, was launched by Northern Range DIG of Police Himanshu Lal.
To cover interior areas, a total of 10 motorcycles have been introduced for patrolling. They would cover vulnerable areas which are not being covered by PCR vans.
Among other initiatives for safety of women, a special WhatsApp group having women representatives of all wards of Sambalpur town as its members has been created. 5T Inspector Tara Pradhan, is the admin of the group.
She would coordinate with all concerned for prompt response in case of any emergency, complaint or grievance by any person, especially women and senior citizens.
