S’pur cops launch campaign against rowdy youths

The Sambalpur police have launched a special drive to curb crimes like contraband smuggling, eve teasing and consuming liquor in public besides other unsocial activities by youths.

‘Special squads’ have been formed to control the unsocial elements and provide a conducive atmosphere for the law-abiding citizens, including women and girls, in the city. The squad will also nab

people obstructing roads or creating similar problems in public places. “When the police stations, due to their busy schedule, couldn’t give time for this, we thought of the necessity of special teams exclusively for the work,” informed Sambalpur SP B Gangadhar. And in the very first day, 21 unruly youths were apprehended by the police while indulging in the illegal activities, said the SP. Besides the helpline 100, the SP appealed to the public to inform

him directly when they see such people on road or any other places to enable the squad for instant action. “Police are not coming to action mode at the very beginning. We will counsel the youths and release them from police stations.

We will also keep a watch on their further activities. But in case of grievous offences, they will be arrested and forwarded to the court,” he informed. Meanwhile, the public of Sambalpur has highly appreciated such a drive.
