A girl, who had been trafficked from Sundargarh district to Delhi, was rescued from a residence at Delhi and the Sundargarh police brought the girl here on Wednesday.

The girl is now at the Abha shelter house. After recording her statement, on Thursday, she would be handed over to her family.

The 22-year-old tribal girl had called her brother from an unknown number about five days back and was crying for her rescue.

The girl belonging to a village under the Kinjirikela police station was working at a shop in Sundargarh for last three years.

A group of brokers had managed to take her to Delhi about a week ago promising her a suitable job. But she feared that a plan was on to sell her off to someone. Her brother lodged an FIR in the Sundargarh town police station on August 1.

On the direction of the Sundargarh SP, a two-member team led by Town police station SI LK Pradhan had departed for Delhi on Monday along with the girl’s brother. The girl was found working there as a domestic help.
