A college girl had allegedly been gangraped by her five classmates at a forest in Balisankar area of the district on June 26.
The incident came to the fore when the victim, a Plus Three 1st year student, lodged a complaint in this connection at the Sadar police station here on Monday.
Sources said on the fateful day while the girl was waiting to return home from college, one of her classmates told the girl that he would drop her home in his motorcycle.
But instead he took the girl to a nearby forest, where he along with four of his classmates allegedly raped her. Then they threatened her of dire consequences if she informed the matter to anybody.
The victim initially didn’t disclose the matter but later narrated the ordeal to her parents.
Acting on a complaint lodged by her, police have registered a case and detained the five accused for questioning.
