Police seized as much as one kilogram of brown sugar from the Sahadevkhunta area on Saturday evening and arrested three persons in this connection.
Police said that the market value of the seized contraband would be Rs 1 crore. Police have detained three persons including notorious drugs mafia Sheikh Haider and are further interrogating them.
“Haider has been peddling brown sugar for years in the State. He is one of the kingpins of drug trade. We are further interrogating him to nab his other associates,” said a police official.
Police said that the route of the peddling racket in the State originates from the Baleswar town and its adjoining areas. “The contraband is mostly smuggled into Odisha from West Bengal, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh,” said the police official.
