The BJP’s Central Election Committee on Monday approved Rudra Madhab Ray’s candidature for the party for the Kandhamal lok Sabha constituency, which will go for a by-election on October15.
The bypoll has been necessitated following the death of the sitting BJD MP Hemendra Chandra Singh.
Rudra Madhab Ray had joined the BJP on Sunday. Ray, who had been elected as BJD MP from Kandhamal in the 2009 elections, was suspended from the BJD for ‘anti-party activities’ during the 2014 polls.
While the BJD is expected soon to declare Hemendra Singh’s widow Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh as its candidate for Kandhamal, the Congress State is awaiting the AICC’s green signal for its nominee.
