The factuality of the allegation that the Odisha lokpal is a toothless body has been exposed through the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
“To get information about functioning of lokpal from 2007 to 2013, a RTI application was submitted to the lokpal PIO on June 17, 2013,” said rights activist Pradip Pradhan.
Though the lokpal has made recommendations to the competent authorities for taking action against disgruntled and corrupt officials several times in 705 cases from 2007 to 2012, the authorities have not submitted a single compliance report to it which means these competent authorities have not taken any action against officials as per the recommendations of the lokpal,
said Pradhan.
As per the information provided by the lokpal PIO, while in 2007 the lokpal in 159 cases had intimated competent authorities for action, these authorities have not submitted a single compliance report
so far.
In the year 2008, 360 reports; in 2009, 46 reports; in 2010, 57 reports; in 2011, 61 reports; and in 2012, 22 reports were recommended to the concerned competent authorities for action by the lokpal, but no compliance report has been submitted by the authorities.
