RTI activist resents info denial

The State Government’s claim that it is insistently fighting corruption appears baseless.

It is evident from the fact that the Government recently denied giving information sought through RTI regarding how many Class I officers have been convicted in last few years by the State Vigilance. “I wanted information on how many Class I officers they have convicted for the last few years. They rejected the application on the ground that it was not covered under “information” as per section 2 (f) and also it would lead to diversion of disproportionate resources for providing the information,” RTI activist Biswajit Mohanty informed in a statement.

Dr Mohanty further informed that the First Appellate Authority cited section 8(1) (h) and said it would impede the process of prosecution and affect investigation. “If the conviction is already secured in the trial court what is there left to be affectedIJ” Dr Mohanty wanted to know.
