RSS chief to arrive today on 9-day visit to State

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghachalak Mohan Bhagwat sees a bright scope in Odisha for expansion of the RSS network.

It is so understood from the RSS’s schedule that Bhagwat will stay in the State for nine long days. He would arrive here on October 12 (Saturday) and stay till October 20.

During the period, BJP working president JP Nadda will also visit the State from October 15 to 18.

Both the leaders will attend the RSS’s Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarta Mandal meeting here, scheduled to be held from October 15 to 20. This is for the first time that the RSS will hold a meeting of its highest decision making body in the State.

Though Bhagawat has visited the State several times in the past, this time his visit is politically significant as the BJP has already become number two political party in the State by pushing the Congress to the third position.

This apart, some Union Ministers are also likely to join the RSS meeting, which is considered important when the BJP is making all efforts to come to power in the State in coming days.

Earlier, BJP president Amit Shah had stated that a golden period would come for the BJP only when it forms Government in Odisaha and West Bengal.

Though, the scheduled RSS meeting will be mostly indoors, it is expected that the Sangh will make its expansion and prepare strategies to promote the BJP in the State. It is a fact that the BJP has grown in States where the RSS has sizable presence. However, Assam is an exception even as the saffron party has formed Government there.Sources said Bhagawat might contact the RSS’s old timers who have been keeping distance from the organisation as well as the BJP for some reason or the other.

Even some Swayamsevaks, who had been courted arrest during the Emergency period, have refrained from entertaining BJP and its leaders. Some old timers purely believe that the RSS is a socio-cultural as well as religious outfit and not for politics.

There are such RSS old timers staying across the State. Bhagwat is likely to invite them for talks to strengthen the RSS base further, said sources.
