A Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) employee, Bijaya Bodra (56), died as a poclain hit him from back during unload of coal from a wagon at CPP-1 of the plant on Sunday morning. Source said there was no supervisor or signalman at the worksite when the incident occurred at about 7.30 am. Bodra died on the spot.
Representatives of various trade unions rushed to the IGC, to where the body of Bodra had been shifted, and alleged that Bodra died due to security lapse. They demanded stringent action against the RSP official who is responsible for safety lapses. “While many workers are dying due to security lapses, it is disappointing that the company management is yet to take measures,” said CITU leader Srimant Behera.
RSP sources said appropriate compensation, including a job, would be given to the family of the deceased.
