A Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) engineer, Suresh Ronak (24), died on duty on Friday morning while a 15-tonne slab fell on him. Suresh, who had joined RSP in 2013, was a Junior Manager (Operation) in the Hot Strip Mill unit. While at about 9 am he was on supervision duty, the slab crashed down on him due to failure of a magnetic crane which was carrying the slab. His lower part of body was totally crushed.
Though Ronak was rushed to the IGH, doctor declared him brought dead. His body was kept in the hospital morgue waiting for his family members to reach here from Hyderabad. He was a bachelor. With this incident, the allegation of security lapses and ignorance of machinery maintenance in RSP is established, said union leaders.
