Workers’ leaders demand action
Soubhagya Ranjan Shatrusal (19), a trainee at the Blast Furnace-V Electrical Department of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), was on Monday afternoon rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) for treatment after one Biren Kumar Mohanty, a junior manager, hit his head with a helmet.
According to Soubhagya, while he was wrapping a motor with polythene Mohanty asked him not to do that. But he continued to do the work as an AGM had asked him to do so. Annoyed over this, Mohanty beat him.
Meanwhile, CITU national vice-president Bishnu Mohanty flayed the act of Mohanty and said such type of attitude of a manager would definitely spoil the work culture and affect the production.
He also criticised the management for putting trainees and contract workers without adequate training in permanent job sites. Rourkela Mazdoor Sangh (RMS) also demanded action against the accused officer. On the other hand, the junior manager refuted the charge. He said work was not going on properly and Soubhagya was not at the work place. Soubhagy has made a ploy against him in apprehension of disciplinary action.
