A rainwater harvesting system was inaugurated in front of R & C laboratory of the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) by RSP CEO GS Prasad.
Rainwater collected by the system will replenish the ground water through two bore wells of 20 metres length. The system also comprises a pit for collection of rainwater from the roof top of Energy Department’s (Works) building through a network of pipes. Three more such projects are under construction in the administrative building, in front of mechanical shop and near old plate mill.
It is worth mentioning that the project is in accordance with the Water Policy of the RSP, which had been released by the CEO on the occasion of World Water Day. The policy is intended to improve the parameters concerning the use of water in the plant. Water conservation is also one of the major concerns of the policy. The rainwater harvesting projects will impart a greater thrust towards water conservation initiatives of the plant.
