The State Government on Monday asked the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) authorities to prepare a positive project proposal to upgrade the Rourkela airport to a commercial flight facility.
Chief Secretary Gokul Chandra Pati, while holding discussion with RSP officials, members of Rourkela Chamber o f Commerce and airport authorities here, made this suggestion.
It was revealed that the land on which the Rourkela airport is located belongs to the RSP. Hence, the RSP should prepare a proposal as to what supports it wants from the Union Government and the State Government.
Pati also asked the RSP Chief Executive Officer to take help of the Rourkela Chamber of Commerce in proposal preparation for making it commercially viable.
It may be noted that the upgradation work of the Jharsuguda airport is going on a priority basis after the Government inked an agreement with the concerned Central authorities.
