The Utkal Gandhi Simarak Nidhi has urged Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Shipping Nitin Jairam Gadkari and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for financial compensation to a youth who lost an eye after being attacked by toll gate operators near Pipili in the Bhubaneswar-Puri NH.

In a letter to Gadkari and Patnaik, the front said that security personnel and anti-socials engaged by the toll gate authority near Pipili attacked innocent driver Biswaranjan Parida on May 3 last who has become invalid after losing his eye. Parida is not in a position to meet the expenses of costly treatment. The front alleged that despite FIR before Pipili police till date no action has been taken against the toll gate authority.

“The NHAI must come forward to pay adequate compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the victim at the earliest preferably within a week and to realize the same amount from the toll gate authority,” the letter said, adding that the State Government and the NHAI must make necessary arrangement for better treatment of the victim. Notably, Union Minister Gadkari will visit State on June 10.
