Infrastructures at the Alarnath temple at Brahmagiri would be developed at a cost of Rs30.49 crore as part of the preparations for the Nabakalebar ritual of lord Jagannath which falls next year after a gap of 18 years.

As per the religious belief, during the sickening period of the deities in the Jagannath Temple at Puri before the annual Rath Yatra the devotees throng Brahmagiri to have a darshan of Alarnath Dev, considered as a manifestation of the lord Jagannath. Expecting a huge crowd during the Nabakalebar, the State Government has taken steps to provide basic amenities at the Alarnath temple such as widening of roads, laying of drains, construction of a bus terminal, pilgrim shelters and related facilities.

The Puri-Brhmagiri-Satpara NH-316 would be widened and reconstructed. Minister Sanjay Dasburma on Tuesday laid the foundation-stone for commencement of the work from the Brahmagiri end.

To minimise the load of vehicular traffic along the route from Puri to the Alarnath temple, the road would be widened by ten feet at a cost of about Rs17 crore while Rs5.94 crore would be spent to develop infrastructure at Brahmagiri for the pilgrims. For blacktopping of the road, another Rs7-75 crore has been allocated, said NH Executive Engineer Jalandhar Pradhan. On the occasion, a public meeting was organised at Dhaba Chhak where MP Pinaki Mishra and Rajya Sabha BJD member film Anubhav Mohanty spoke about success of the BJD Govt.
