Unidentified miscreants on Monday looted Rs 28.85 lakh from tollgate employees near the Jangia Bazaar in Khordha rural police district.
According to reports, two employees of the Godipada tollgate were on their way to a bank by a Nano car to deposit the cash collected from vehicles on Sunday and Monday.
When they were passing the bazaar, a Travera hit their vehicle from rear. As they stopped, the miscreants coming by a Pulsar snatched away the bag containing the money from them at gunpoint. The Nano driver sustained serious injuries in the attack and is now undergoing treatment. After committing the crime, the miscreants fled from the spot.
However, the tollgate employees were taking the money without any security provision. On being informed, police rushed to the spot and started investigation.
Khordha SP Dilip Kumar Das said raids were being conducted at several suspected locations in the area to nab the culprits.
