The Culture department on Thursday provided financial assistance of Rs 25,000 to the last surviving Devadasi of lord Jagannath, Sasimani, for her treatment.
Culture Secretary Arvind Padhee visited the 90-year-old Devadasi at Puri and provided her the financial aid. Puri Collector Arbinda Agrawal was also present during Padhee’s visit. Notably, Sasimani is bedridden since last eight years due old age aliments.
The Puri district Culture department and the
Shree Jagannath Temple Administration are giving Rs 1,000 each per month to Sasimani. The Devadasi has been staying with his adopted son Somanath Panda.
