The Koraput district administration has set a target to spend Rs226 crore to generate employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) during the financial year 2015-2016.

“It has been targeted to spend Rs226 crore to create rural employment throughout the district. A total of Rs1 crore, each, will be spent in all 226 villages of 14 blocks in the district”, said District Collector Jaya Kumar V.

Till September, Rs72.98 crore has been spent under the MGNREGS. Hence, the BDOs have been asked to achieve the set target by the end of March 31, 2016, the Collector said, adding “by this we can also check Migration”.

The administration has asked the BDOs to develop roads, construct check dams, field channels, contour trenches and take up plantation drives to make every gram panchayat more greenery and eco-friendly, he added.

Besides, special attention will be given to Maoist-affected areas of Narayanpatna, Bandhugaon, Boipariguda and lakhmipur, said the Collector, who later directed concerned officials to ensure prevalence of no obstacles in the implementation of the scheme.
