On a tipoff, the Saintala police raided the house of a resident of Dingara village under the Saintla police station, Khirsagar Bag and recovered old and new currency notes worth Rs12.75 lakh.

Among the seized currency there are 240 Rs2,000 (Rs4.8 lakh), 392 Rs1000 notes, and 692 Rs500 and 730 Rs100 notes.

As per reports, Bag is a labour sardar. This money was given to him by people outside the State, especially from southern States a few days ago. It appeared that the cash was given by labour contactors to mobilise labourers from this area and to to send them to the southern States.

After November 8, there is a limitation on withdrawal of Rs2,000 notes. However, the recovery of Rs4.80 lakh in Rs2,000 notes contradicts the rules. “We would inquire further into the matter .We are going to inform the Income Tax officials in this case,” said Bolangir SP Ashis Singh.
