In yet another ATM loot incident, unidentified miscreants looted Rs12 lakh from an ATM of the Bank of India (BOI) at Jatni in Khordha district.
Shockingly, the miscreants looted the cash from the ATM located at Taraboi under the Jatni police station by hacking its password. After a written complaint, the Jatni police have started investigation into the incident.
However, the miscreants have taken the CCTV’s hard disk to conceal their identity.
Sources said on May 12, two people had taken a broom from a neighbouring shop, saying to the shop keeper that they want to clean the ATM. From that day, when the customers went to withdraw money, the machine did not dispense cash, so they thought that the ATM was out of order. But on Tuesday, when a customer went to withdraw money, he found that cash dispensing machine’s door open. This led to the conclusion that the ATM was looted.
It might be mentioned here that password is known to very few people and even the concerned bank officials do not know it. Only the agencies refilling cash in the ATMs are aware of it. So it is suspected that somebody connected with the ATM cash management agencies might be involved in the heist.
Earlier, the Commisssionerate police had busted a gang and arrested some miscreants, who were looting ATMs without breaking or damaging the machine.
