Even though a financial bungling of Rs11.08 crore was proved by a special audit at the Rourkela Branch of Sundargarh District Central Cooperative Bank, the concerned departmental authorities are yet to take any step against the culprits who were named in the audit report.

According to sources, as per the direction of the Directorate of Cooperative Audit a special audit was conducted last year at the Rourkela Branch of the Sundargarh District Central Cooperative Bank for the year 2004-05 to 2011-April 20, 2012 in connection with misappropriation and fraud for an amount of Rs5.12 crore. During the audit it was found that a misappropriation of Rs297 lakh took place in year 2004-05 and 2006-07, Rs385 lakh in 2007-08, Rs112 lakh in 2008-09, Rs151 lakh 2009-10, Rs153 lakh in 2010-11 to 2011-12 and Rs10 lakh from April 1, 2012 to April 20, 2012.

The audit report also held two former employees of the bank, Branch Manager SC Rath and NN Nayak, responsible for the misappropriation and suggested for recovery of the fund from the duo.

"A huge financial bungling has already been proved. Though three months have been elapsed into the submission of the report the concerned department is yet to take initiatives to recover the amount from the duo forcing us to suspect involvement of senior officials in suppressing the issue. We demand immediate action against the responsible persons and urge the Government to recover the amount from them as soon as possible," said a

senior citizen.
