The flying squad of the Excise Department seized brown sugar weighing 80 grams from two drug peddlers at Machhua Bazaar here on Monday.
Based on a tipoff, the excise sleuths laid a trap at Machhua Bazaar and recovered the brown sugar along with 5 kg ganja from one Dillip Kahali and Manoj Kahali.
The value of the seized brown sugar was estimated to be around Rs8 lakh. The arrested persons used to procure the contraband from unidentified persons and sell it at different places of the district, an official informed.
Efforts are on to trace other people involved with the duo in the brown sugar and ganja trade, the official said.
However, counsel for the accused Sidhant Kumar Jena and Bidyalok Mohapatra refuted the allegations.
