Believe it or not, the department of RWSS has asked a person to deposit Rs 80,000 to get information sought by him under the RTI Act. As per information, Bula Behera applied for certain information to the RWSS office. He also wanted to see some of the files.
But the office, in a letter to Behera, has instructed very promptly to deposit Rs 80,000 so that he could get the desired information. The information comprises of 40,000 pages and Rs 80,000 is the cost of Xerox, the budget was given to Behera. Hence, he needs to depositthe above amount for the purpose, he was told. It is a widely accepted fact here that the officials’ insensitivities have made a mockery of the RTI law here. In some other cases, manyoffices are also providing very funny and cunning replies to the queries.
