Police seized cash of Rs 80 lakh from a lodge in Kantabanji town of Balangir district on Friday and detained five people in this connection.
Acting on a tipoff about gambling activities being carried out the lodge, a police team conducted a raid and seized the cash from the possession of accused persons.
The police asked the accused to show valid documents for the possession of the money, but the failed to do so. Following which, the cops seized the entire money and detained five persons.
The detained persons hail from outside the State, police sources said.
It is suspected that the accused persons were brick kiln have come to the district to take locals with them tpo ‘bonded labourers’ outside the State.
A case was registered in this connection and further investigation was on, police said.
