Despite the repeated seizures by the enforcement agencies, smuggling and peddling of brown sugar has been flourishing in the Jaleswar area in Baleswar district.
In two separate raids at different places in the block on Thursday night, a joint team of Excise Department and police seized the contraband worth around Rs 55 lakh. As many as four persons were arrested in this connection.
Acting on inputs, a team conducted raids at Rajpur village and nabbed a peddler apart from seizing 240 gram of the narcotics from his possession.
In another raid by the officials, more than 310 grams of brown sugar was seized and three persons were arrested from the area. Around 4.5 kilogram of the narcotics has been seized from the area since last one month.
