The Commissionerate police on Tuesday arrested a person for allegedly defrauding people of Rs 5 crore on the pretext of recharging mobile phone numbers.The main accused was identified as Bipra Prasad Swain of the Balikuda area in Jagatsinghpur district.
The accused had formed an online company namely ‘Sangvi Enterprisers Limited’ at Bayalish Mouza under the Cuttack Sadar police station. He had engaged some agents who used to collect money from people for recharging their mobile phone numbers and DTH accounts after offering them annual plans ranging from Rs 999 to Rs 1,499.
After paying amount, duped customers got services for few months instead of 12 months.Swain was apprehended by police during a raid while computers used in offence were seized from his possession.
