The Commissionerate police on Tuesday arrested two drug peddlers and seized 400 grams of brown sugar from their possession.
The estimated market value of the seized contraband is Rs 40 lakh.
The two arrested were identified as Siba Prasad Das and Jagabandhu Das.
Police said both the accused were nabbed by a team of Special Crime Unit from the Pahala area on the outskirts of the capital city.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the peddlers had procured the brown sugar from Khordha district and planned to peddle it at various parts in Bhubaneswar.
“Enforcement against drugs is a top priority for the Commissionerate police. The drive against contraband trade would continue in coming days as well,” said Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Panda.
Panda said that efforts were on to establish further linkage of the narcotics trade including the source of procurement of the brown sugar by the accused and the entire supply network
