Rs 4-cr gold seized: 2 bizmen arrested

Published on:

A day after gold worth over Rs 4 crore was seized from the Mumbai-bound Jnaneswari Express near the Jharsuguda railway station, the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested the two detained businessmen on Friday.

The accused duo has been identified as Dhanraj Mahadev Yadav and Rahul Aryan. They were travelling from Rourkela to Jharsugada by the train, said DRI officials.

On Thursday, officials of the Central Excise and Customs, acting on a tipoff about gold smuggling, had intercepted the train near the Jharsuguda railway station and seized 110 gold biscuits weighing 12.9 kg.

It is suspected that the two arrested persons are involved in an international gold smuggling racket. However, DRI officials were further interrogating the accused to elicit more information in this connection, sources said.
