Will the Department of Higher Education (DoHE) come to the rescue of the bright student who has undergone much mental agony for no fault of hisIJ
Suman Panigrahi, who studied at the Basudevpur Panchayat High School in Bhadrak district, is the unlucky student who has been a victim of the State’s faulty examination system.
Suman had been declared failed by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) this year after he secured “only six marks” in Mathematics. Subsequently, after a rechecking of his answer-sheet, he was declared passed in first division by securing 89 marks in Mathematics.
The Odisha High Court on Wednesday directed the BSE to pay a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to Suman as he lost an entire academic year to pursue his higher education.
Other than Math, Suman had secured good marks in all the papers. He had earlier approached the High Court to direct the BSE to do the needful so that his one academic year would not be lost.
But by the time his rectified mark-sheet came, he was devastated as the last date for applying for higher education had already expired.
So, Justice BN Mohapatra of the High Court awarded a compensation of Rs 3 lakh to Suman. However, will this compensation amount be sufficient for fulfilment of his aspirationIJ
There is now a demand from different quarters that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik come to Suman’s rescue and the State Government make special arrangement for the boy for his higher studies.
