Seven unidentified armed criminals stormed into a private gold loan company establishment located in the posh Madhusudan Marg area in the city and looted gold ornaments worth around Rs 3 crore at gunpoint on Friday.
Sources said the miscreants armed with revolvers and other weapons barged into the office of the Indian Infoline Finance ltd (IIFl), a company which provides gold loans, at around 4.30 pm and took the company officials and a couple of customers into their custody at gunpoint. They also attacked those who delayed to obey their command.
During the robbery, a total of eight persons, including three company officials and five customers, were present in the office. Before committing the robbery the looters collected all cell phones from the employees and customers and threatened company manager Guru Prasad Mohanty to give the key of the locker before taking away the ornaments in a jute bag and fleeing from the spot.
Eyewitnesses said the miscreants had covered their faces with cloth and were talking in Hindi.
A team of police, including Rourkela SP Anirudha Singh, rushed to the spot and started investigation. “Our investigation is on and the culprits will be nabbed soon,” said the SP.
