Armed miscreants robbed cash of nearly 10 lakh at gunpoint from the Gitarani Mohanty Mines in Raikela under the Tensa police outpost of Rourkela on the wee hours of Thursday.
Disguised as drivers, the masked miscreants reached the office armed with guns and terrorised the employees at gunpoint and decamped with the cash.
The entire crime was captured in the CCTV camera installed in the office. The involvement of locals behind the robbery was suspected. However, there was no official confirmation in this connection so far.
“The robbers had come after midnight. They knocked at the main door of the office and held all of us at gunpoint. They beat up us and threatened to kill us if we did not give them the locker keys. Out of fear, we gave them the keys and they fled with the cash,” said an office staff.
“There were six robbers who looted cash of around Rs 10 lakh. Three of them were in the office while three others were waiting outside,” he added.
On being informed, a police team rushed to the spot and launched a probe. The cops have been examining the CCTV footage to identify the miscreants, sources said.
